I have been renting units since the 1980's and at public storage places since at least 1991. One thing that I really like is a meticulously clean unit before placing my items. I am very surprised that the cleaning process does not include a thorough vacuuming of the cement expansion joints and all outer borders. This is a long-standing error on the part of public storage procedures. Why do I assume this? Well when I ask the workers if they use a vacuum they say no, or they say they don't have a portable vac in their equipment. Vacs are quicker, stronger, more effective than a broom, and will pick up dust, sand, dirt, insects, and small items better. I always find screws and nails and a piece of broken glass when I move into a unit. Usually they are in the joints or outer spaces of the unit. But they are there. And the amount of cement dust I find is probably the original amount since it is so plentiful. A high quality vac is only $100, and a special portable unit might only cost $200. So, to conclude I wish my units (and I am not degrading any one particular location) were cleaner when I first move in, and I believe the use of a quality vacuum would be a great asset to your facilities. As for the other parts of the process I find most workers very pleasant and helpful. Sarah was genuinely kind and nice to work with.
