I moved into CubeSmart at 9641 Annapolis Rd, Lanham, MD on January 22. I was asked by email at least twice a week to leave a review, but I prefer to wait and give an honest one after I’ve had actual experience. So here it is: DO NOT STORE YOUR BELONGINGS HERE. When I first moved in, I noticed the rubber seal at the bottom of the storage door was hanging out. I rented the unit anyway. The next day, I spoke with a young pregnant employee (I’m so sorry I can’t remember her name — she was very nice). I told her the rubber was hanging and brushing against my face when I placed items inside (which was disgusting). She asked me to sign a form allowing them to enter the unit to fix it, either by replacing it or pushing it back in. She said it could take about a week for the part to come in. I signed the form. Fast forward to February 18th — I came back to grab something from my unit. The rubber was STILL hanging (eye roll). But that wasn’t even the worst part. When I opened my unit, I was hit with a foul smell. As I looked around, I found rat feces and urine ALL over my belongings. They chewed through boxes, damaged a wooden clothing basket, used my shoe boxes as a bathroom, and even got into my son’s toy chest. There was literally poop and urine everywhere. At that moment, I decided I was moving out immediately. But the worst part wasn’t even the damage — it was the conversation I had with the property manager. Her response was vague, lacked urgency, and showed no real care or concern. It honestly felt like she already knew there was a rat infestation. I would have preferred rudeness over the indifference I received. After explaining what I found, she told me they would sweep out the unit, place peppermint treatment and traps, and if any of my belongings were damaged, I could submit photos and “they would give me money or something like that.” Then she told me the part for the door would have to be ordered next month in March during their next supply order (???). On February 21st, I returned to check on the unit — and there were even more rat droppings. Nothing had been swept. Nothing had been handled like they said it would be. And then the audacity of receiving a payment reminder email. I packed up what I could salvage and left the rat-damaged items for them to remove. I easily lost around $300 worth of belongings, and my unit was $69 a month. I wasn’t even there 30 days. This experience has made me never want to use a storage unit again. As for this CubeSmart location — it honestly should be shut down. My advice: do not store your things here.
