Facility Overview & What to Expect

Extremely easy over the phone or online move In. I decided to get a storage unit and within lets say 20 minutes I was ready to move in. Online was very easy. I ended up doing it over the phone just because of needing to do a 24 hour unit, but they are very reasonably priced and the staff isn’t constantly telling you what to do and that you need to leave they’re very Courteous and understand that you are storing things that mean something to you and they show that. I wouldn’t store anywhere else.
I’ve officially been a renter here for three days, and I’m already planning my emotional recovery tour. I rented my unit online through the portal like a responsible adult. I read the entire welcome packet — yes, the whole thing — to make sure there were no hidden balloon payments, secret initiation rituals, or “surprise!” clauses. Everything looked normal. Lock instructions? Check. Gate code? Supposedly. Facility map? Check. So I head to the Extra Space Storage location on Bothell Everett Highway ready to move in… and immediately begin my audition for a survival reality show. I arrive to a locked door with a code I do not possess. No problem — surely a quick human interaction will solve this. I see a gentleman near the gate and politely ask, “Excuse me sir, do you work here? I just need a door code.” His response? “As of right now, I don’t.” Gate closes. Car starts. Off into the sunset he goes. I respect the commitment to the bit. Next logical step: customer service. For two hours and eighteen minutes (yes, I counted — I was in a U-Haul, time was all I had), I attempted to gain access. Customer service tried calling the manager and assistant manager multiple times. No answer. No callback. Just me, a truck full of belongings, and a growing appreciation for irony. Fast forward to Monday, 2/16/26. I walk into the office. The manager greets me with the professional enthusiasm of someone who has already mentally muted the conversation. I calmly explain what happened, including the now-legendary “As of right now, I don’t” moment. I’m informed that someone lives on-site and “helps after hours,” but is not obligated to help after hours. Fascinating concept. I also learn that the door code was emailed that morning — which is impressive considering I needed it the day before, and it should have been in the “Welcome” email. To be clear, I’m not upset that policies exist. I’m upset that access to the unit I paid $174 for apparently exists in theory. Also worth mentioning: the security guard appeared to be deep into what I hope was a very restorative nap. If you enjoy puzzles, suspense, and testing the limits of customer service response times, this may be your spot. If you simply want access to the storage unit you rented, you may want to explore other locations. I genuinely hope this improves. But based on my first three days, this has been less “Extra Space” and more “Extra Steps.”
The gate can open with a phone app wich is nice to not need to enter your code every time. Acces is easy from outside with no stairs or elevator required. Door locks are not the most secure and exit gate auto opens when you approach it. Service hours are sensible and it’s in good maintained condition.
Everything was pretty straightforward . I walked inside, signed a few documents, given the code to get in and instructions on how to get to my unit and we're done. The only issue was the latch.on the door lock was not properly aligned so I had to struggle just to lock it. However, that problem was resolved the following business day. All good!!!
I’ve rented through extra space for years. I’ve even had a location in Glendale Arizona. This location on Bothell Everett Highway had been very typical of the service and professionalism I’m used to seeing. However, in the last months there has been a large construction project in the back of the property, which coincidentally is where my storage unit is located. The typical gate around the back has been shut off for use. To help us with access, extra space gave access to the rear gate, and had hired a security guard to be stationed at the gate. However, the multiple times I’ve gone, the security guards were either asleep, off urinating in the corner (witnessed this myself) or non-existent. This does not give a very “secure” setting for storage. Also, the construction made access pretty difficult as the normally two lane access was limited to one lane. Ok, I can work around that. But the construction continued, and it got muddy back there (see photos). I nearly slipped getting stuff into my car from the mud on the bottom of my shoes. Lastly, I’m here on a Sunday to start getting my things out. There’s a sign that says see security at the gate. There is no security, the gate is padlocked, so I have no access. I’m so frustrated with this place. Just let me get my stuff and get far far away from you all.
